Not everyone who uses substances has a problem. Many people can drink or use casually without negative impact on their life. For others, substance use begins to slowly creep into patterns that cause trouble.
A popular notion of the "addict" or "alcoholic" is someone who gets extremely intoxicated every day. However, substance abuse can be as simple as the happy hours that unexpectedly turns into a weeknight bender (and maybe a sick day after), or the accosional black-out followed by morning regret. You may be able to use responsibly most of the time, but if these situations are becoming harder to predict, it may be time to look at your relationship with substances.
At Pathwork, our clinicians have over a decade of personal experience with substance abuse recovery. As counselors in recovery, we know how to support your desire to lead a healthier life, whether it be through a reduction in use or total abstinence.
